hier hat sich jetzt wohl endgültig der herbst festgesetzt. ein spätsommer ist nicht in sicht. vorgestern waren die temperaturen morgens nahe dem gefrierpunkt und ich habe die autozusatzheizung und das kabel zur motorheizung aus dem schank gegraben, weil ich keine lust zum scheibenkratzen hatte...

schultechnisch war diese woche einiges los.

am dienstag hatte wir eine feuerwehrübung mit feuerlöschen und wasser-in-brennendes-fett-schmeissen-demonstration.
außerdem habe ich einen autoparkplatz mit steckdose an der schule gemietet, damit ich auch nach einem langen winterschultag in ein kuschelig warmes auto steigen kann...

am mittwoch hatten wir sowas wie einen projekttag. jede fachgruppe hatte unterricht bei dem lehrern der anderen gruppen. so hatten wir einwanderer morgens "schauspiel"-unterricht beim theater-lehrer kai paavilainen und nachmittags bei einer lehrerin aus der "jugendarbeit"-linie. unsere lehrer haben im gegenzug die jugendarbeit-schüler und eine weitere gruppe (wir haben naturführer (ranger) und welche von der offenen universität, theater-leute und so weiter)

und heute waren wir mal wieder beim arbeitsamt. da ich da schon so oft war und es auch diesmal keine neuen informationen gab, habe ich die gelegenheit genutzt und mich mal wieder ausgiebig mit der flussziege unterhalten. hat spaß gemacht (war ganz entspannt auf deutsch), aber wahrscheinlich nicht der sinn der veranstaltung ;-)

danach hatte ich noch einen termin an der uni bei meiner alten sprachkurslehrerin. die anmeldung zum nationalen sprachfähigkeitstest stand an. der test findet am 27.10. landesweit statt und in unserem fall wird die teilnahmegebühr von der uni bezahlt. wäre nicht schlecht, wenn ich das halbwegs ordentlich bestehen würde, dann dürfte ich auch an einer finnischen universität auf finnisch studieren...

netter nebeneffekt war das wiedersehen mit einigen sprachkurskameraden. wir haben das ausgenutzt und im anschluß noch einen kaffee getrunken...

it seems, that autumn has decided to stay. there is no sign of a nice indian summer as of yet. day before yesterday the temperatures were around 0°C in the morning and i dug out our additional carheating and the cable for the motorheating, because i didn't feel like scratching ice from windows.

regarding the school we had an interesting week.

on tuesday there was a fire drill including fire-extinguishing with blankets and demonstration about what will happen if you throw water into burning fat.
i also rented a parking place with electricity-outlet in order to have a warm car after a long cold school day.

on wednesday was some kind of project day. the classes switched the teachers and we ended up with the acting class teacher in the mornig and the youth work teacher in the afternoon.

today we visited (again) the unemployment office. and because i have been there various times and they didn't have any new information, i took the opportunity to chat with flussziege for quite some time. it was very relaxing, but probably not what the teachers had in mind...

after that i had an appointment at the university with my old language teacher. end of october are the nationwide finnish language test and we had to fill in the application form. in our case the university pays the entrance fee. it would be really nice to pass this test well, because then i have no problems if i want to study at a finnish university in finnish language.

nice side effect was to see the old comrades again. we stayed for a coffee afterwards and talked a lot...

kurz bevor wir gingen kamen die beiden noch vorbei. eine der letzten gelegenheiten bevor das wetter zu schlecht wird...

wir sind erfolgreich in der digitalen welt angekommen (und es hat auch fast gar nicht weh getan, sondern nur eine stunde fluchen gebraucht, bis frau sich erbarmt hat und dann noch mal an dem stecker gerüttelt hat, der offensichtlich von mann nicht fest genug... usw. usf.)

we arrived successfully in the digital world (and it was nearly painless. it took only one hour of swearing until woman took mercy and plugged in the plug again, that man obviously didn't... etc. pp.)

ich bin vom englisch-unterricht befreit. ich passe nicht in die stufenaufteilung. es gibt nur absolute anfänger und leute mit mäßigen vorkenntnissen.
da bin ich zu gut dafür.
deshalb kann ich in den freistunden tun was ich will, und das ist in dem fall schwedisch lernen. die englischlehrerin ist auch schwedischlehrerin und hilft mir, wenn ich ein problem habe.
für eine englische benotung muß ich nur ein zweiseitiges essay über ein beliebiges englisches buch schreiben. da nehme ich das letzte, das ich mir aus der bücherei ausgeliehen habe: the seven sisters von margaret drabble. das war ein wirklich nettes buch, da kann ich auch was dazu sagen (und es hat ein bischen höheres niveau als meine üblichen zur entspannung dienenden regency-waschbär-bauch-schmalz-bücher...)
dafür habe ich zwei bis drei wochen zeit und ich kann das ergebnis per email an die lehrerin schicken.


i don't have to take part in the english lessons. because i don't fit into the system. there is a absolute beginners group and a medium level group.
i know to much.
therefore i con do what i like during the english lessons, which will be studying swedish. the english teacher teaches also swedish and will help me as if i have any problems.
to get a grade in english i have to write a short essay about any book i like. i think i will choose "the seven sisters" by margaret drabble. it was the last one i took from the library and was a very nice read (and it has a somewhat higher niveau than the regency-romaces i usually read for relaxation...)
i will have two or three weeks time and can send the result by email to the teacher...

die funktioniert inzwischen so gut, das wir sie wieder ausschalten konnte, und trotzdem noch mehr als zwanzig grad in der wohnung haben.
mit heizung waren es fast 22 grad und das ist uns als untypischen finnen/ausländern zu warm.
der typische finne hat 25 grad im herbst/winter in der wohnung (und trägt ab +10 grad schal und handschuhe draußen)

the heating is working that well, that we switched it off again, and still have more than 20°C in our flat. with heating it would be more than 22 °C.
and that is for us as untypical finns/foreigners to warm.

am ersten september wurde hier in finnland das analoge fernsehen abgeschaltet. bis februar 2008 kann man noch genau fünf sender analog empfangen. das erste und zweite staatliche fernsehen (yle 1 + 2), das finnische äquivalent zu rtl (mtv3), den lokalen lokalsender k5/susiraja und das finnische mtv. ich will ja nicht behaupten, das die jetzt fehlenden sender ein programm hoher qualität gezeigt haben (unter anderem fehlt jetzt die deutsche welle, bbc world, finnischer sportkanal, subtv und nelonen), aber beim durchzappen fehlt irgendwie die abwechslung.
und warum fehlt das?
weil wir, obwohl schon seit dem letzten jahr ständig darauf hingewiesen wird, daß das analoge fernsehen ausgeschaltet wird, immer noch keine digi-box besitzen.
mir ist das zu fachfinnisch (und warum muß überhaupt ich immer alle technischen geräte verstehen und auswählen?) und mein finne hält digitalfernsehen für teufelszeug.
ich glaube allerdings das ich ihn jetzt genug genervt habe und wir am samstag losziehen und nach so einer teufelskiste schauen...

starting with september 1st, the analogue television transmission has been switched off. until february 2008 there will be only five analogue channels left, which are not very fascinating. i don't try to say that the missing programms show high quality entertainment, but somehow it is a little boring if you have only three real choices (one channel is the local neighbourhood channel which shows half the time only static advertisements and the other is the finnish version of mtv)
and why is that so?
because, although there have been announcements that they will switch to digital television broadcasting since last december, we still don't own a digital receiver.
the finnish descriptions are to specialized for my taste (and who says that it is always i who has to understand and select all the technical devices in our household?) and my finn thinks that digital television is an invention from hell.
but now i hope that i got on his nerves enough, that we will go and try to buy a devil's box on saturday...

jaja, da bin ich jetzt mehr als 41 jahre alt und muß trotzdem noch am schulsprort teilnehmen...
zwei schulstunden lange haben wir fußball, handball und basketball gespielt. die hälfte der klasse ist unter 30 und alle jungs sind unter 20.
da kann man ganz schön alt aussehen.
es hat spaß gemacht, aber natürlich bin ich so untrainiert, daß ich heute nachmittag dann erst mal mit kopfschmerzen im bett lag...

well, well, i'm 41 and still have to take part in the school sports.
for two hours we played soccer, handball and basketball. half of the class is younger than 30 and all the boys are younger than 20.
that lets you look even older.
it was fun, but i am so out of shape, that i had to go to bed with a bad headache in the afternoon...

es ist kalt hier. und damit meine ich nicht nur draußen.
wir haben einen kleinen herbsteinbruch seit dem wochenende. temperaturen um die zehn grad und regenschauer. auch die birken werden gelb (das ist normal um diese jahreszeit) das stört mich nicht auch unbedingt (war es eigentlich letztes jahr um die zeit auch so kalt?), ich habe schließlich eine warme jacke und fahre zur zeit mit dem auto die 18 km bis zur schule (im winter dann mit dem bus) - mein finne hat das harte los gezogen und fährt mit dem fahrrad zu seiner fachhochschule, die ist nur sieben km entfernt und er will ja sowieso was für seine figur tun.
was mich allerdings stört, ist, daß die heizung nicht tut. wir haben aktuell 18 grad in der wohnung. finde ich kalt. zu kalt. mein finne will erst morgen bei der verwaltung anrufen und ich habe aber den verdacht, daß die heizung hier in der anlage erst zum anfang september eingeschaltet wird - und das es letztes jahr nicht so früh so kalt war...

it is cold here. and i don't mean only outside.
since the weekend we have autumn as a guest. the temperatures are around 10°C and it rains. also the birchleaves are turning yellow (that's normal at this time of year). that does not bother me too much (was it as cold last year at the same time?), i have a warm jacket and make the 18 km trip to school by car (during winter i will go by bus) - my finn has the harder part, he is riding his bike to his "university of applied sience", it is a trip of only 7 km and he wants to do something for his health anyway.
what bothers me is, that the heating in our appartement is not working. we have only 18°C in here. that is cold. to cold. my finn says he will call the property management tomorrow but i suspect that they turn the heating on only at the beginning of september - and that it was not that cold that early last year...

sollte ich heute auf einem schulausflug sein. aber leider hänge ich auf dem sofa fest. ein schnupfen. seit samstag. wie blöd.

i should take part in a school outing today. but, alas, i am sitting on my sofa. i've got a cold. since saturday. how unamusing.
